The first Kwik Shop opened in 1960 in Hutchinson, Kansas and by the end of the decade, the convenience store chain had expanded into three state markets – Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa. Over the years the business grew, expanding its offerings to include self-service gasoline and food services. Dillon Companies, Inc. and Kwik Shop merged with Kroger in 1983 to become the largest food retailer in the United States.
